A child’s biggest influence is their parent at this Early Development Stage. Although they are starting to spend up to 5 days out of 7 in classrooms learning, it is how a parent values learning which influences a child. Special Education Resources For Kids wants parents to ‘share’ learning experiences with their child that are fun and not stressful to either. ABC Flash Card Set

All images are of objects familiar with young children for easy identification and have also been chosen to reproduce the correct phonic sound in order for reading preparation when needing to sound out unknown words. So your child will hear 'zzz' for 'zip' (not 'xylophone' like many flash cards tend to do).

The Memory Game uses the same images as the flash cards but without the word printed. This will increase the child's ability to recognise the beginning sound of the object and try to remember its matching letter. A great way to develop a necessary skill required when learning to read.

Colour Memory Game

This game will help children identify and learn the vocabulary of 10 simple colours by matching 10 colour cards with coloured objects familiar to them. There is also word cards added to increase the difficulty of play while developing sight word recognition. A great activity to develop colour identity as well as learning sight words through the repetition of the sentences in each book. Children will enjoy creating their own story books and will want to read them over and over - all the time learning! Looking through magazines and advertising also develops their discrimination skills, while cutting and gluing requires fine-motor attention.

This topic is commonly covered in schools and is a great way to build awareness of safety and helpful people around your child. Learning to label people and the items associated with that person not only expands their vocabulary but is a great way to teach Who? and What? questions also. (So instead of saying 'the man', your child will say 'the policeman'). Most bingo sets give you only 4 playing boards but this we've built 6 - making it ideal for classroom group use.

People In My Community Memory Game

Building associations helps children with memory retrieval and this topic is a great one to start with - especially if your child is into dress-ups. Labeling people with their proper name and the items associated with that person will expand their vocabulary and build confidence in using the titles when communicating.
